About SD_AC

The Doctoral school of Automatic Control and Computers (SD_AC) is organized within the University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB), and perform its activity in conformity with the Bylaw for the organisation of Doctoral schools in UPB (2018). The Doctoral school of Automatic Control and Computers benefits from the research infrastructure and logistic support of the faculty of Automatic Control and Computers (A&C). SD_AC has been founded at the proposal of the UPB Senate, validated by the Executive Bureau of UPB, and approved by UPB’s Council for Doctoral Studies (CSUD) in 2012.

SD_AC organises full-time scientific doctoral studies both funded from the budget of the Ministry on National Education and Scientific Research and in the tax payment system for Romanian and foreign students. Ph.D. study programs are organized in two doctoral domains:

  • System Engineering (SE),
  • Computers and Information Technology (CIT),

in the fundamental domain Engineering Sciences.

The admission of candidates to doctoral programs is organised annually in two sessions: July and September. Foreign candidates are admitted in the SE and CIT doctoral programs in these two sessions only if they previously perform the steps of a pre-selection process. The duration of doctoral studies organised by the SD_AC is of three years, with the possibility of one-year extension in well-justified cases.

Actual scientific research topics which support the progress of: computer science and engineering, system science and engineering, service science, information and communication technology, and applied informatics are approached in the SD_AC. The doctoral research in these areas fosters technological and organizational knowledge-based innovation for economic growth and satisfying societal needs.

SD_AC members have initiated scientific partnerships in the SE and CIT domains with researchers from representative companies and prestigious national and European universities, with which they organise internships and research stages for doctoral students, work out joint Ph.D. theses and participate in public thesis defence juries.

The cycle of doctoral study organised by the Doctoral school has two obligatory stages:

  • The student learning program based on advanced university studies, having a duration of three months in the first year of the doctorate, just after being admitted;
  • The individual research program, with duration of five semesters.
